1811: Birth of Joshua Frye Bell, the man for whom Bell County was named.
1893: The first recorded football game in Bell County was played at the polo grounds in Middlesboro. The town boys played those from the private school on Arthur Heights (University School) and won.
1906: Formal opening of the lodge of the Middlesboro Elks on Cumberland Ave. (the 4 story building later used as a hospital and physician’s office, now in disrepair). Many people came to admire the spacious halls and parlors, the gym, bowling alley and other amenities.
1933: The new Ford car, called the Model A, shown by Motch Motor Company. It will be available in four colors and will cost $395 to $570. It will go 55 to 65 miles an hour and get 20 -30 miles to the gallon.
1965: The Middlesboro Yellow Jackets lost to Hopkinsville 24 – 6 in the state AA championship football game.
