1891: East Tennessee Telephone had almost all its poles up in Middlesborough. Already there were 60 subscribers to the phone service.
1908: Louisville Colonels were in Bell County to play he Middlesboro baseball team. Louisville won their first game 8 to 3 and the second 8 to 6.
1914: Bell County went “dry” for the first time.
1918: The newspaper reported that 21 of Bell County’s “colored citizens” left for training at the army’s Camp Zachery Taylor and stated, “The day has forever passed when a black skin can disqualify a man for preferment and advancement.”
1934: Dedication of the Bell County Airport.
1926: Construction began on the Skyland Highway to the Pinnacle.
1930: The city of Middlesboro purchased For Woods for use as a city park for $3500.
1965: Excello Shirt Factory dedicated by Gov. Edward Breathitt.
