Did you know the “News” back in the late 1800’s was very different from today’s news? In this weeks did you know, I am giving you a flashback into what made news back then.

M.C. Williams, of Mt. Vernon was in the city Wednesday.

W.L. Salyers and James A. Chapman were in Pineville Wednesday on business.

Herb Ralston had a toe broken Wednesday at the mines by a mule stepping on his foot.

Atkinson & Co. sold three bicycles this week and it has not been good weather for bicycles either.

Genuine Blue Grass butter received fresh every week, 25 cents pound. Henry Stair.

Mrs. Ritchie and Miss Ruby Cooper went over to Cumberland Gap Tuesday for a visit to the family of Dr. Arthur.

Charlie Cunningham entertained a number of his young friends last night. Dancing was the order of the evening.

Mr. B. F. Howell has been confined to his home, in the Tribble block, for the last week with a severe attack of typhoid fever.

John Dugan’s saloon license expired this week and he has closed his business. He left Thursday night for a prospecting trip South.

Reese Lawson, a notorious character of the East End, let his temper get the best of him Monday and struck Will Fultz, a young boy, with a rock. He was tried yesterday.

Mrs. F.E. Hess and Miss Emma White, of Cumberland Gap, were shopping in the city yesterday.

Mrs. and Miss Weinstein, mother and sister of Herman and Sam the merchants, arrived in the city Wednesday night from New York and will make this city their home. They have taken rooms in the Age of Steel block.

George Troutman, a brakeman on the L & N while jumping from the steam shovel train near the city Thursday accidently fell and dislocated his ankle. He was taken to the office of Dr. Buck and had his injuries dressed.
