There were more victims of the Turner-Sowders Feud in Bell County (reputedly 27) than were killed in the notorious Hatfield-McCoy Feud, which cost 12 lives. In this connection, in both of the feuds, two persons were killed as a result of mistaken identity. Anse Hatfield sent someone to kill Randal McCoy and his son Calvin, but he mistakenly killed John and Henderson Scott, nephews who had been visiting Randal. General Sowders shot Chad Marsee and Reuben Carroll in the belief they were Lee Turner and a cohart. In both feuds, there was a Romero-and-Juliet romance. However, Johnse Hatfield and Rose Anna McCoy never married and left no descendants. General Sowders and Lizzie Turner married and had a son who in turn had 8 or 9 children. Some of their descendants still live in Bell County.
